The review of the programme was undertaken by the PNGRB chairperson on March 31, 2026, covering the progress of the national campaign, compliance by city gas distribution entities with directives issued by the government and measures aimed at improving consumer connectivity.
The National PNG Drive was launched in January 2026 to speed up the expansion of piped natural gas infrastructure across authorised geographical areas with time-bound targets for domestic and commercial PNG connections and commissioning of CNG stations.
According to PNGRB, city gas distribution entities have developed infrastructure for 6.5 lakh domestic PNG connections, with gas supply already commenced to nearly 5.29 lakh households and 2,457 commercial consumers as of March 31, 2026.
In addition, 11 new geographical areas have been connected to the natural gas pipeline network, taking the total number of areas linked to the trunk pipeline system to 250. Since March 15, 2026, more than 10,000 new PNG connections are being provided daily, and entities have been directed to further increase the pace to meet rising demand.
The government has also introduced targeted measures to address disruptions in LPG supply while strengthening the gas-based energy ecosystem, including regulatory changes linking the allocation of commercial LPG with expansion of city gas distribution networks across states.
PNGRB has directed distribution entities to publish area-wise PNG rollout plans on their websites and enable online registration for connections, along with tentative timelines, to improve consumer access and accelerate the transition from LPG to piped natural gas.
