OIL India Share Price: Shares of OIL India gained on Tuesday as rising crude oil prices lifted sentiment towards upstream oil producers, which stand to benefit from higher oil realisations.
OIL India shares were trading at Rs 481.70, up 1.49 per cent, at 12:54 pm on the NSE on August 18. The stock had gained as much as 2.01 per cent earlier in the session, touching Rs 484.20.
The move came as global crude prices climbed above $91 a barrel amid renewed concerns over oil supplies from the Middle East. Brent crude futures rose 39 cents, or 0.4 per cent, to $91.26 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude gained 51 cents to $85.31.
Why rising crude prices benefit OIL India
OIL India is an upstream oil and gas producer, meaning it extracts crude oil and natural gas rather than primarily buying crude for refining.
This makes the company relatively more sensitive to movements in crude prices. When global oil prices rise, the company can potentially earn higher realisations on the crude it produces. At the same time, its core production costs do not necessarily rise at the same pace, which can support margins and cash flows.
Middle East tensions push crude higher
The latest rise in oil prices is being driven by growing uncertainty around the Middle East conflict.
Hopes for a broader US-Iran agreement have weakened after Iran indicated that it would adopt a more offensive military posture, while Washington has ruled out extending the temporary ceasefire. The developments have raised concerns about possible disruptions to energy supplies, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz.
Brent crude has moved above $91 a barrel, adding to the risk premium in global oil markets. Both Brent and WTI had already gained more than 5 per cent last week following attacks on tankers operated by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company in the Strait of Hormuz and an attack on a Saudi Aramco refinery.
OIL India financial performance
OIL India’s consolidated financial performance has remained profitable over the past five financial years, although earnings have fluctuated with commodity prices and operating conditions. In FY26, the company reported consolidated revenue of Rs 33,946.13 crore, compared with Rs 32,512.48 crore in FY25 and Rs 32,466.03 crore in FY24. Revenue had stood at Rs 36,097.38 crore in FY23 and Rs 25,905.59 crore in FY22.
However, net profit declined to Rs 6,429.11 crore in FY26 from Rs 7,098.28 crore in FY25. In comparison, the company had reported a net profit of Rs 6,523.37 crore in FY24, Rs 9,850.10 crore in FY23 and Rs 6,607.36 crore in FY22. FY23 remained the strongest year for profit during the period under review.
OIL India’s consolidated EPS stood at Rs 40.70 in FY26, slightly higher than Rs 40.27 in FY25. EPS was Rs 58.42 in FY24, Rs 80.49 in FY23 and Rs 51.84 in FY22.
The financial performance highlights the company’s strong earnings base, while also showing the sensitivity of its profitability to movements in crude oil prices.
What it means for OIL India investors
For OIL India, sustained higher crude prices could provide support to earnings and cash generation if production levels remain steady.
However, the stock’s performance will depend on more than just crude prices. Investors will also track production growth, domestic gas realisations, government policies and the duration of the current geopolitical disruption.
