Natural Gas price has come down sharply in the past week. The Natural Gas Futures contract traded on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) tumbled 12 per cent last week. It touched a high of ₹320.70 per mmBtu on Wednesday and fell sharply to close the week at ₹280.30. It is currently trading at ₹279 per mmBtu.
Outlook
The strong fall below ₹290 last week has turned the outlook bearish for the MCX Natural Gas Futures contract. Immediate resistance is at ₹282. Above that ₹290-₹292 in the next important resistance region. Even if the contract manages to rise above ₹282, the upside is likely to be capped at ₹290-₹292.
The MCX Natural Gas Futures contract can fall to ₹250 in the coming weeks. To avoid this fall, the contract has to rise past ₹292 decisively. Only then the upside will open up to revisit ₹300 levels. But that looks unlikely.
Trade Strategy
Traders can go short now at ₹279 and add more shorts on a rise at ₹281 and ₹288. Keep the stop-loss at ₹295 initially. Trail the stop-loss down to ₹276 as soon as the contract falls to ₹271. Revise the stop-loss lower to ₹268 and ₹258 when the price touches ₹263 and ₹255 respectively. Exit the short positions at ₹252.
