Natural Gas prices have risen back well as expected after a short-lived correction. The Natural Gas futures contract on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) fell to a low of ₹375.60 per mmBtu last week and has since reversed higher from there. The contract touched a high of ₹419 and is currently trading at ₹403 per mmBtu.
Outlook
The price action indicates that the MCX Natural Gas futures contract is facing resistance in the ₹415-₹420 region. Failure to rise above ₹420 from here will still keep the downside open to test ₹380 and even ₹370 in the short term. However, a fall below ₹370 looks less likely. So, for now, ₹370-420 can be the possible trading range.
The bias remains positive to make a bullish breakout above ₹420. Such a break can take the MCX Natural Gas futures contract up to ₹440 initially. A further break above ₹440 will then clear the way for a rise to ₹480 eventually over the medium term.
The outlook will turn bearish only if the contract breaks below ₹370. If that happens, a sharp fall to ₹345 or ₹330 can be seen.
Trade Strategy
The trailing stop-loss of ₹405 for the long positions recommended at ₹390 and ₹382 would have been triggered now.
Traders can go long again on dips at the same levels of ₹390, ₹382 and ₹374. Keep the stop-loss at ₹364. Trail the stop-loss up to ₹395 as soon as the contract goes up to ₹406. Revise the stop-loss higher to ₹405, ₹415 and ₹420 when the contract touches ₹412, ₹420 and ₹428 respectively. Exit the long positions at ₹435.
