The stock market gave investors a bit of a head fake today. After all three major U.S. indexes started the day solidly in the green, with the S&P 500 up as much as 1.2%, they trended lower until they had all turned negative. Then they bounced off those lows.
This market choppiness could show that investors are apprehensive about this week’s increase in trade tensions.
“Investors don’t appear ready to send equities back to fresh records at this juncture, as they await more earnings reports and commentary from Washington or Beijing, prior to traveling north,” said José Torres, senior economist at Interactive Brokers.
