LABOUR’S Benefits Street Budget is so unpopular the party is now less trusted on the economy than disastrous Liz Truss.
The polling is the latest blow to rock Chancellor Rachel Reeves since she opted to hike taxes by £26billion in order to fund a £16billion splurge on welfare payments.
Yesterday, the independent Office for Budget Responsibility heaped even more pressure on her by saying leaks in the run-up to the Budget had increased uncertainty for business and consumers.
And polling on who voters trust on handling the economy found Labour is now on just ten per cent.
That is lower than ex-PM Ms Truss — at 15 per cent in October 2022 after she unleashed her catastrophic mini-Budget.
The figure is also lower than the 13 per cent former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn hit in October 2019.
The Tories are currently ranked first on 17 per cent for trust on the economy.
Some 37 per cent surveyed by YouGov believe Ms Reeves exaggerated how bad the public finances were before the Budget — more than twice the number who thought she was being honest.
And just eight per cent said the Budget will leave the country in a better position overall.
Only two per cent think their family will be better off.
Professor David Miles, of the OBR, yesterday told MPs “increasing uncertainty” pre-Budget stunted growth.
He said the OBR had complained to the Treasury over leaks.
He insisted: “Uncertainty is not helpful for most economic decisions.
“People will postpone decisions and may hold off investments.”
