The UK economy grew by 0.7% in the three months to April 2026, despite a small contraction during the latest month.
Figures from the Office for National Statistics showed the economy shrank by 0.1% in April, following stronger growth in February and March.
The services sector was the main driver of growth, expanding by 0.8% over the three-month period.
Construction also showed signs of recovery, growing by 1.6%, while production output fell by 0.1%.
Liz McKeown, director of economic statistics at the Office for National Statistics, said: “The economy grew in the last three months as a whole, reflecting strong growth in February and March. This was despite April showing a small fall.”
She added that services growth was supported by strong performance in computer programming, marketing and wholesale businesses.
Construction also showed further improvement after a weak winter period, although this was partly offset by falls in research and development, sports industries and electricity generation.
