Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) disposed of RM800,000 worth of cryptocurrency mining equipment seized in 2025 through joint operations with relevant agencies.
The disposal was carried out under the 2026 Enforcement Department Non-Perishable Goods Disposal Programme at its towing depot in Section 17, Shah Alam, Selangor.
The disposed items included mining devices and blowers used for unauthorised bitcoin mining activities.
MBSA said, in a statement, that the programme aimed to ensure all confiscated goods that had undergone legal proceedings were disposed of according to established procedures.
The enforcement and disposal was executed in accordance with provisions of Regulation 3 and Regulation 38 of MBSA Licensing of Trades, Businesses, and Industries By-Laws 2007, as well as Section 116 of Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974.
“With cooperation from Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) and the police, these efforts strengthen enforcement actions against illegal cryptocurrency mining, specifically concerning electricity theft and legal violations under Electricity Supply Act 1990.
“MBSA remains committed to ensuring that business activities within its jurisdiction are carried out in compliance with the law, without compromising public safety, infrastructure and community well-being,” the statement said.
“The public is also encouraged to channel information to MBSA or relevant agencies if they detect suspected illegal cryptocurrency mining operations.”
