HDFC AMC shares go ex-bonus: HDFC Asset Management Company (HDFC AMC) shares are in the spotlight today as they start trading ex-bonus following the company’s announcement of a 1:1 bonus share issue—its first since listing. The move is considered a milestone for the asset management firm and its investors.
Shareholders will receive one extra share for each share they currently hold. As per stock exchange rules, November 25 was the last date to buy shares and qualify for the bonus. Only those whose holdings were recorded at the close of trading that day are eligible.
Optical price drop, no real loss
Trading ex-bonus means the market price will adjust to account for the doubled number of shares. On a 1:1 bonus, the price may appear to fall by about 50 per cent, but this is only a technical adjustment. The company’s fundamentals remain strong. Investors’ overall holdings do not lose value, although earnings per share (EPS) will be recalculated.
HDFC AMC will issue 21,40,03,751 bonus shares, funded from its Capital Redemption Reserve Account and Securities Premium Account as of September 30. Shareholding percentages remain unchanged.
Performance snapshot
HDFC AMC has delivered steady returns over the past year. The stock rose 27.5 per cent in the last 12 months and 29.4 per cent year-to-date in 2025. Over six months, it gained 11.9 per cent, but there has been some short-term consolidation with a 7.6 per cent drop over three months and a 2.8 per cent fall in the past month, largely in anticipation of the ex-bonus adjustment. Since its IPO at Rs 1,100 per share, the stock has increased nearly fivefold, highlighting its long-term growth potential.
Investor takeaways
According to the filing, the company stated, “Issuance of bonus Equity Shares in the ratio of 1:1, i.e., one new fully paid-up equity share of Rs 5 each for every one fully paid-up equity share of Rs 5 each, to members as on the record date.”
Effectively, the number of shares in shareholders’ accounts will double, while the total value of the investment remains the same. Bonus issues like this are generally used to reward shareholders, improve liquidity, and make the stock more affordable. The company has said further details, including the timeline for crediting bonus shares, will be shared shortly.
With this issuance, HDFC AMC has now joined list of prominent companies that have issued bonus shares in 2025, including HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finance, Ashok Leyland, Nestle India, Patanjali Foods, Samvardhana Motherson International, Shilpa Medicare, Container Corporation of India, and Indraprastha Gas.
