Track and field: Bergenfield’s Fall takes gold in the 200
Souleymane Fall of Bergenfield had to battle a tough field in the 200, but came out on top, taking home the gold for Group 3 and proving that he is one of the Garden State’s best in the sprints.
Fall came into the race looking for redemption after sectionals, where he placed second with a 22.03 for North 1, Group 3.
He came into the race having to battle the likes of Josh Babe of Morris Hills, who currently holds the fourth-best time in the state this season with a 21.40.
The entire race was essentially a battle between Fall and Babe, as the two would pull away once the race hit the straight, but ultimately it was Fall who came out on top, finishing with a 21.61, setting a new PR and edging out Babe who finished with a 21.79. His time also ties for the eighth-best in the state this season.
“I just trained hard for this and told myself that I can’t lose,” said Fall after the race.
“At sectionals, I lost to some of these guys here which are obviously great runners, but I’m striving to be the best so I can’t let anyone get in the way of that.”
