After the investment, SAE and G-PAL will strengthen their strategic layout by building an engineering center for full self-driving (FSD) perception integration and smart decision-making, as well as conducting R&D for high-performance FSD NPU.

G-PAL will contribute to Shanghai’s new-generation national AI innovation pilot scheme and form an ecosystem for FSD chips, software, testing, and application. The company help reinforce its development in the autonomous and crewless driving fields.

Notably, G-PAL has received another exclusive strategic investment in February this year from Bosch-affiliated Boyuan Capital. Earlier in August 2021, the company banked over RMB500 million ($74.65 million) in its Pre-A round, with capital from Matrix Partners China, Hubei Xiaomi Yangtze River Industry Investment Fund, Baidu Ventures, Silergy, Glory Ventures, and others.

Currently, the company is working on a new set of intelligent driving system solution, which adopts 5R5V or 5R7V configurations to realize L4 and below autonomous driving perception needs. The cost of software and hardware can be compressed to a thousand-yuan level.

In addition, G-PAL’s 4D millimeter-wave imaging radar solution has passed SAIC Motor’s commercial vehicle tests and is being delivered in a small scale. The company is also working on the testing and pre-assembly of its solutions onto SAIC Motor’s several passenger vehicle models, which will be put onto the market in 2023-2024.
