Government to expand coverage of commodity balance sheets

In the near future, the commodity balance sheet is expected to include more commodities in the Indonesian economy

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The government will increase the number of export-import commodities covered by commodity balance sheets, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati stated during a commodity balance sheet talk show here on Monday.

“In the near future, the commodity balance sheet is expected to include more commodities in the Indonesian economy, which is known as a country that is rich in commodities,” Indrawati remarked.

Currently, the minister explained that the commodity balance sheets containing data and information related to the production and consumption of Indonesia’s export-import commodities, only include five commodities: rice, sugar, salt, beef, and fish.

According to Indrawati, the commodity balance sheet has three main functions: as a reference for issuing import and export approvals; as a reference for production and consumption data; and as a reference for national industrial development.

“Data from the commodity balance sheet is the sole reference for the government in providing export and import licenses for business actors. This balance sheet is a benchmark that is used as a reference for business actors in obtaining raw materials and assistance needed for their business,” Indrawati stated.

The finance minister expressed belief that export-import commodities that are governed well will help improve the Indonesian economy and boost public trust in the government’s transparent work.

With a commodity balance, the government can make policies based on data, thereby ensuring that they have higher quality, as they are objective and accurate, she added.

“With this balance sheet, the integration and synergy of various policies issued by ministries and institutions is expected to be much more positive or stronger and more comprehensive, so that they do not contradict each other,” she stated.

According to Presidential Regulation No. 32 of 2022, commodity balance sheets are data and information highlighting the situation of specific commodity consumption and production for the needs of the population and industry within a certain period and apply nationwide.
