Gold production in Peru down 1.6% in January-April 2022, ministry reports

(Kitco News) – According to the latest figures from the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru (MINEM), gold production in Peru, the world’s eighth largest gold producing country, was 7,567 kg in April 2022, a decline of 0.1% compared to 7,572 kg mined in April 2021.
MINEM said that similarly, the domestic gold production of 29,901 kg in January-April 2022 period showed a year-on-year decrease of 1.6% as a result of lower production recorded by Minera Aurifera Retamas S.A. (-9.1%) and Compañía Minera Ares S.A.C. (-5.4).
However, the ministry added that this negative result was partially offset by higher production levels at Compañía Minera Poderosa S.A. (+5.1%) and Minera Yanacocha S.R.L. (+6.6%).
At the company level, Compañía Minera Poderosa S.A. maintained its first position accounting for 9.9% of total gold production in Peru, followed by Minera Yanacocha S.R.L. (9.1%) and Minera Aurífera Retamas S.A. (7.4%).
At the regional level, La Libertad kept the first position accounting for 32.6% of Peru’s total gold production, followed by Cajamarca (21.0%) and Arequipa (18.3%).
