Ferrari Is Making a Big Investment in Building New EVs

If you’re following trends in the automotive industry, few are more prominent right now than — with all apologies to Bob Dylan — going electric. Countless automakers have announced ambitious plans to convert the bulk, if not the entirety, of their output to electric vehicles in the coming years.

Getting a plan like that executed correctly involves a host of variables — and one big one in there is physical space. If you’re planning to build electric vehicles at the same time as internal combustion ones, you’re probably going to need more manufacturing space. That’s why automakers like Hyundai and Volkswagen are planning to open dedicated facilities for electric vehicles, and why a number of battery plants are also in the works.

Ferrari appears to be the latest automaker to announce new facilities for electric vehicle manufacturing. That’s the gist of a new article at Autoblog, anyway. Autoblog cites “people familiar with the matter” with the information that Ferrari has been buying up land near its existing factory in northern Italy with the extent of expanding those spaces.

Specifically, the sources believe that Ferrari would add a third production line, as well as the possibility of space dedicated to battery research and development.

Ferrari did not provide any comment on the rumors, but their capital markets day is later this week — if big announcements are coming, it’ll likely happen then.
