Asked to comment on reports that the Group of Seven (G7) is set to announce a critical minerals production alliance in a bid to counter China’s dominance in the sector, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Thursday that China’s efforts to regulate and improve its export control system are in line with international practices, aimed at better safeguarding world peace and regional stability, and fulfilling international obligations such as non-proliferation.

“We urge the G7 to earnestly abide by market economy principles and international trade rules, to stop undermining the international economic and trade order through  ‘small circles’ rules, and to work together to maintain the stable and sustainable development of the world’s economy,” Guo said.
