J F Pudge has applied for permission to install the three farm produce vending machines at Brook House Farm in Moreton-on-Lugg.
The installation of the vending machines is an initiative to “reduce food miles, provide a convenient purchase location for customers, and to allow producers to sell directly to customers to the benefit of the rural economy”.
The application, submitted by property consultancy firm Berrys, has advised that the three machines would be placed within the northern boundary of the farm and built into purpose-designed cabins.
The “very nearly self-sufficient” machines would be stocked with produce from the farm, including potatoes, flowers, and seeds.
Milk, milk-based products and eggs would also be sold, but would be sourced from other farms locally.
In the application, the property consultancy firm said its client would be adopting the “farm to fork” initiative, by investing in the vending machines, and as such, would create a “direct route” for the farm’s produce to reach local customers.

They said this technique would reduce food miles, carbon emissions, and allow for a greater margin on sales in comparison to selling their produce to a supermarket or other third parties.
“The scheme would thus increase the income generated by local farms which will in turn assist in creating a more resilient, viable, and sustainable rural economy,” the application added.
The application has received one representation from Herefordshire Council, who made no objection, but advised that as National Highways are responsible for the trunk road, comments should be provided by them.
