ExxonMobil yesterday said the natural gas pipeline installed for the Gas-to-Energy (GtE) project remains in “preservation mode,” nearly a year after completion, as the plant planned for Wales is still to be finished.
The company says that the pipeline from its offshore platform to shore is fully intact, continuously monitored, and prepared to begin operations once the government’s integrated facility becomes operational. Residents living near the pipeline corridor say the project has created jobs and training opportunities in the area, but many remain uncertain about when the long-promised 50 percent reduction in electricity bills will finally take effect.
At a community engagement yesterday to provide answers to residents on the GtE project, specifically the pipelines, held at the Westminster Secondary School, the third of such events being held, ExxonMobil Operations Manager Kevin Hirshberg, who oversees the Liza Destiny and Liza Unity FPSOs as well as the onshore pipeline, noted that the pipeline had been completed since December 2024 and is being kept in a preserved state to avoid corrosion.
