Premier of Tasmania – Launch of the 2023 Australian Wooden Boat Festival

Nic Street,

Minister for Hospitality and Events

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is a proud supporter of the Australian Wooden Boat Festival and I congratulate the organisers on the launch of the 2023 event.

From February 10 to 13 next year, the biennial four-day Festival will take over the Hobart waterfront and showcase Tasmania’s rich maritime history and continued links to the water through tourism, seafood, trade and leisure.

With festival organisers expecting to attract around 12,000 visitors to our great State for the 2023 event, the Wooden Boat Festival is tipped to make a strong return after the unfortunate cancellation of the 2021 event due to COVID-19.

We know these visitors will spend a significant amount of time in Tasmania and will make a substantial contribution to our tourism and hospitality sectors.

The festival has been supported by the Tasmanian Government since its inception in 1994, and we are pleased to continue this support with the 2023, 2025 and 2027 Australian Wooden Boat Festivals receiving funding through our $21.5 million election commitment to secure Tasmania’s iconic events.

We remain a strong supporter of our world-class events sector and will continue to attract new and grow existing events that will drive economic growth in every region of the State.

The festival has something for all tastes, and I encourage everyone to find out more at www.australianwoodenboatfestival.com.au.
