BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — This summer leading into fall, more than 30 streets in Binghamton will be getting $12.2 million worth of infrastructure upgrades.

According to Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham, Binghamton’s 2022 street improvement plan includes milling and paving work as well as water, sewer, curb and sidewalk upgrades.

“We want to make Binghamton a walkable community, regardless of your ability,” said Kraham. “Senior citizens, folks who may use a wheelchair, it’s important that they have the same opportunities to walk and explore our city as able-bodied individuals.”

Milling and paving will cost an estimated $1.9 million. Full street reconstructions will be an estimated $6 million. Upgrades for the water and sewer lines below the streets and before new pavement will cost an estimated $2.6 million. Curb and sidewalk upgrades will get an estimated $1.7 million.

The work is being paid for by grant funding from the Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program, Community Development Block Grant and federal stimulus funding.

Some of the more well-known streets residents can expect to have construction done on include Bevier Street, Pennsylvania Avenue and Liberty Street.
